Researchers have been refining methods to detect fake accounts on social media for many years. But methods created to sniff out individual bots can fail to detect more sophisticated forms of manipulation—such as state-sponsored disinformation or harassment campaigns spanning thousands of accounts over many years.

Camille François, Chief Innovation Officer at Graphika, named as one of this year’s MIT Technology Review’s 35 Innovators Under 35, has been researching these issues and building towards solutions to these issues for years, through her work at Graphika, Google Jigsaw, the Harvard Berkman-Klein Center and Mozilla. “The techniques are always evolving, and we have to stay one step ahead.” In this talk, she will be sharing her latest findings, diving into today’s greatest social media threats and what we can do to solve them.
