About David
David Li is the Executive Director of Shenzhen Open Innovation Lab which he co-founded with the support of Shenzhen Government to bridge global hardware entrepreneurs to the open ecosystem in Shenzhen.
Prior to the SZOIL, he co-founded Hacked Matter in 2011, a research hub on bottom up open innovation and global movement. He also co-founded XinCheJian, the first makerspace in China in 2010.

Smart hardware from the streets
The exponential growth of information technologies drove the knowledge and services to be openly available to everyone in large scale that leads to the Internet revolution in the past two decades. In the parallel, the opening up of China lead by the first special economic zone of Shenzhen has further pushed the production to be openly available to everyone. The abundance of open knowledge, services, and production has made Shenzhen the “Silicon Valley of Hardware” and the combined forces are rapidly changing the hardware innovation and entrepreneurship around the world at exponential speed also known as Shenzhen Speed.
