About Laura

Laura Herman is a Senior Research Lead at Adobe and a PhD researcher at the Oxford Internet Institute. She examines the role of algorithmic curation on global visual cultures. At Adobe, Laura leads a team that researches emerging creative technologies & platforms. Laura has previously held research positions at Intel, Harvard, and Princeton, from which she graduated with honors in Neuroscience & Psychology.

What is the impact of AI on the creative process?

How will generative tools like DALL-E2, Stable Diffusion, and ChatGPT change the world? AI is drastically impacting creative works. Even those that aren’t made by AI. Algorithmic recommendation systems can be seen as artistic curators, governing who sees what when. This talk will illustrate the downstream impact of this algorithmic curation on artistic and cultural norms, by comparing algorithmic and human curation.
